FG has approved funding for school lunch programs.

The federal government has announced funding for the second semester of the National School Pet Feeding Program. However, the amount of the payment was not disclosed, but the federal government has said the funds for the first feeding cycle in 2023 will go to state-designated providers at participating schools.

These funds will go towards free meals for 9,990,862 students across the country.

These products aim to increase school attendance and provide nutritional support for children. This is stated in a message posted on LinkedIn from the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Dr. K. Signed by Nasir Sani-Gwarzo.

“This is to inform the public that the Department of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has begun disbursing funds for the second phase of the National Home School Feeding Program.

As public elementary schools open across the country, 2023 first cycle nutrition funding will be directed to state-appointed providers at participating schools to provide free meals to enrolled students, encourage enrollment, and provide meals. “The School Feeding Program is an initiative by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to provide nutritious food to students in grades 1-3 in public schools.

“Through this programme, State governments are responsible for ensuring meals are prepared and served to pupils using funds released by the federal government.

Every feeding cycle is to last 20 days in a month, 5 days in a week.

“Currently the programme is feeding close to 10 million pupils in over 50,000 public primary schools.

The Minister, Sadiya Farouq called on participating State governments to ensure that all actors involved ensure good service delivery and that released funds are utilised according to the program design.

She also urged the general public, parents, headmasters and teachers, NGOs, and CSOs to report any compliance issues via the reporting application which is available for download on IOs and Android.
