PZ Cussons appoints a new Chairman.

PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc has appointed former Head of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Ifueko Okauru, as Chairman of its Board of Directors.

The company said in a statement that key appointments to its board were approved after two people from the top hierarchy left due to retirement and resignation.

It revealed that Gbenga Oyebode has retired as its Chairman and Non-Executive Director effective January 25.

According to the statement, he was replaced by Okauru, whose term came into effect on January 25, after her appointment was approved at a board meeting held after the company’s annual general meeting on the same date.

Okauru is the company’s first female chair, having joined the board in April 2021 as an independent, non-executive director.

Trained as a chartered accountant, she is a strategy and change management consultant with experience in both the public and private sectors.

She headed the strategy practice at Arthur Andersen and Co, where she spent more than 10 years.

She emerged as the first female CEO of the federal Internal Revenue Service.

She currently serves on the boards of MTN Nigeria Plc and Nigerian Breweries Plc as a Non-Executive Director and on the boards of AfyaCare Ltd and ReStraL Ltd as Chair.

Prior to her appointment, Okauru served as Chair of the Audit, Risk and Legal Committees and as a member of the Governance and People Committee of PZ Cussons.

She holds a Master of Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School, a Master of Management Science from Imperial College London, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (First Class) from the University of Lagos.

Okauru is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, the Nigerian Compliance Institute, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Oyebode currently chairs Okomu Oil and is an independent non-executive director at Nestle Nigeria.
