Another Isese activist, Chief Ademola Olawoore, popularly known as Oluwo Of Tede, has been apprehended and is currently held in a correctional facility located in Ilorin, Kwara State.
This incident follows the circulation of a video on social media where a visibly disturbed Olawoore was seen, and he is facing charges related to defaming someone’s character.
The elderly Isese advocate was taken into custody in Ibadan on August 19 and subsequently transferred to a correctional facility in Ilorin, where he remains detained. Reports indicate that Baba Tede was arrested due to alleged derogatory remarks directed at a Muslim cleric known as Alfa Okutagidi.
This arrest closely follows the apprehension of another prominent Isese activist, Adegbola Abdulazeez, also referred to as Tani Olohun, who was recently detained in Ibadan and then transported to Ilorin by the state police command. Abdulazeez’s charges are related to defaming the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, as well as notable clerics from the region.
Adedamola Solesi, one of the legal representatives for Abdulazeez, confirmed the arrest and offered reassurance to Olawoore’s family and associates that efforts are being made to secure his release soon.
Solesi explained that due to simultaneous proceedings involving both Baba Tede and Talolorun (presumably Abdulazeez), their bail applications could not be processed on the specified Wednesday.
The legal team awaits the resolution of preliminary objections before pursuing their release, as directed by the court.
In a Facebook post titled “Defamation of character,” it was reported that Oluwo of Tede, who alleged that Alfa Okutagidi possessed an idol at home, has been detained on grounds of character defamation.
The post also mentioned the subsequent arrest of a blogger identifying as Tani Olohun, indicating that more details will be shared later.
