Flutterwave supports financial technology convergence

Nigerian fintech, Flutterwave, has been announced as the lead sponsor of the Africa Fintech Summit 2023 slated to hold in Washington D.C on April 12, 2023, and in one African city to be that would be disclosed later in the year.

According to a statement by the company, the sponsorship comes in the wake of Flutterwave’s latest licences issued in Egypt, making it possible for the firm to be an official payment service provider in Egypt and expand its presence in MENA.

The statement added that since its inception in 2016, the Flutterwave team has been on a mission to create endless possibilities for customers and businesses in Africa and emerging markets, so far processed over 400 million transactions worth over $25bn to date across 34 countries in Africa.

The company said last year it made one of its largest expansions, currently serving over 1,000,000 businesses across the globe.

Flutterwave’s Founder and CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, said the tech company was happy to be a lead sponsor for this year’s AFTS event.

He said, “We believe that the AFTS network has been instrumental in developing and shaping the fintech industry in Africa and Flutterwave has been an active enabler of the ecosystem growth.

“We are always enthusiastic about working with the Africa Fintech Summit team in engaging stakeholders and partners who help us create endless possibilities. We are excited about all this opportunity provides as we continue on our vision to connect African countries through payments.”

Co-Founder of AFTS and MD of Ibex Frontier, Zekarias Amsalu, said, “It is with immense gratitude and great pleasure that we are welcoming back Flutterwave as our lead fintech sponsor for both our April and November summits this year.

“Flutterwave has been and continues to be an impactful, progressive, and innovative Fintech that enables the wide Fintech ecosystem in Africa and beyond and demonstrates the Africanisation of Tech in its global growth trajectory.”

Since its first summit in 2018, the Africa Fintech Summit has become one of the largest bi-annual financial technology gathering in Africa.

In addition to Flutterwave’s sponsorship, AFTS would be supported by a diverse cohort of partners and sponsors.

The 9th edition of AFTS would focus on fintech regulatory best practices, diaspora banking and remittance, African fintech expansion globally, cross-border payment movements and use cases for decentralised finance.

It would also centre on fintech funding trends, cross-border payments under the AfCFTA, US-Africa tech connections and several other spotlight topics.
