A real estate firm, Riel Homes, has gifted one Jennifer Efidi, who was attacked and injured during the 2023 presidential election in Lagos State a plot of land worth N2.2m.
The Lagos resident was assaulted while she was waiting to cast her vote at the Nuru/Oniwo Ward, Polling Unit 065, in Surulere on February 25.
Despite the attack, she did not give up on her right to vote and returned to the polling unit to exercise her civic duty.
The Chief Executive Officer of Riel Homes, Dr Kolade Adepoju, explained that the firm gave Efidi the land as a symbol of compassion and a statement against violence in the country.
He said, “What inspired us to give her the land was because when I saw the video of her voting with a blood-dripping face, I felt compassionate and God laid it on my heart to give her the land. I saw bravery in her.
It is a statement that violence will not win in our country, and yes, I feel that people like that should be rewarded in this society; it wasn’t difficult for me to just make it happen in a short time.
“She deserves even more; we are also looking at the possibility of naming a street after her in our coming project at Sangotedo, Lagos.”
In her reaction, Efidi appreciated the firm for the recognition and encouragement.
She added, “Going back to vote was because I believed my vote would count and I saw it as my only tool to choose our leader. In addition, my family and I are saying a very big thank you to Riel Homes for this huge gift, for the recognition and encouragement as well.”
